Description
This bronze Buddha is depicted in the Bhumisparsha Mudra (earth-touching posture), symbolizing the moment of enlightenment and the calling of the earth as witness. The gesture represents steadfastness, inner strength, and spiritual awakening.
The sculpture reflects a regional Southeast Asian interpretation of the Buddha form, distinguished by its fuller facial features, grounded proportions, and more expressive handcrafted character. Unlike the refined court styles of Central Thailand, this piece embodies a more earthy and devotional aesthetic, often associated with temple-cast works across the broader mainland Southeast Asian region.
The surface displays a deep, aged bronze tone, accented by applied gold leaf across the torso, limbs, and head. These remnants of gilding suggest continued devotional use, adding both visual contrast and cultural significance to the piece.
The Buddha is seated on a decorative pedestal base with relief figures, giving the sculpture a narrative and ceremonial presence not commonly found in more formal Thai styles. This enhances its uniqueness and collectible appeal.
With a height of 39 cm and a substantial weight of 6.2 kg, the piece carries a strong physical and visual presence, suitable as a focal display or altar centerpiece.
Dimensions: 29 × 16 × 39 cm (L × W × H)
