Description
This Khmer style Shakyamuni Buddha is depicted in the Earth-Touching (Bhumisparsha Mudra) posture, representing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called upon the earth to witness his triumph over illusion and temptation. The composition reflects the balanced proportions and spiritual authority associated with the Khmer sculptural tradition of mainland Southeast Asia.
Distinctive elements — including the tiered royal crown, ornamental necklace, and composed facial expression — express the stylistic vocabulary of this lineage. The Buddha appears in a crowned form often associated with the Jambupati representation, symbolising the Buddha’s spiritual sovereignty and universal kingship.
The statue rests on a broad lotus pedestal with rounded tiers, reinforcing the sense of stability and sacred presence often seen in regional Buddhist sculpture.
The bronze surface display traces of devotional gold leaf, lending the piece a dignified and time-softened character.
With a height of 38 cm, it offers a substantial and balanced form suitable for altar placement, meditation spaces, or contemplative display.
Dimensions: 29 × 18 × 38 cm (L × W × H)
