Description
This Rattanakosin Style Phra Malai is depicted seated while holding a traditional talapat (monastic fan), symbolising his role as one of the most revered arahants in Thai Buddhist tradition. Unlike images of the Buddha, Phra Malai represents an enlightened monk whose story emphasises compassion, merit-making, and the importance of Buddhist teachings. The composition reflects the refined proportions and spiritual composure associated with the Rattanakosin sculptural tradition.
Distinctive elements—including the finely modelled facial features, elongated earlobes, ornate openwork talapat, and elaborately decorated pedestal—express the stylistic vocabulary of this lineage. The bronze surface displays a naturally developed patina with areas of devotional gold leaf applied over time, giving the statue a dignified and time-honoured appearance.
With a height of 33 cm, it offers a balanced presence suitable for Buddhist shrines, meditation spaces, or collections of Thai religious art.
Dimensions: 26 × 18 × 33 cm (L × W × H)
