Description
This Luang Phor Kai statue depicts the respected Southern Thai monk seated in a meditative posture upon an ornate oval pedestal. The composition presents the monk with a calm and contemplative expression, reflecting the traditional style commonly associated with devotional monk statuary from Southern Thailand.
Distinctive features include finely modelled facial details, layered monastic robes, and a decorative oval base adorned with floral and scrolling motifs in relief. The figure is seated with hands resting naturally in the lap, while a folded robe panel extends across the front of the composition. Thai inscriptions appear on both the base and robe, adding further character to the piece.
The bronze surface displays developed patina with areas of natural tonal variation. Traces of applied gold leaf remain visible across the shoulders, arms, and robe, reflecting devotional use over time. The underside contains a sealed devotional insert embedded within the base, a feature occasionally encountered in Thai devotional statuary.
With a height of 17 cm, this statue offers a compact display presence suitable for home altars, meditation spaces, or collections of Thai Buddhist art and monk representations.
