Description
This Ayutthaya style Earth-Touching Buddha is presented seated upon a distinctive elevated tiered pedestal, combining devotional symbolism with a strong architectural presence. The Buddha is depicted in the Earth-Touching (Bhumisparsha Mudra) posture, symbolizing enlightenment, steadfastness, and the calling of the Earth to witness the moment of awakening.
The figure displays characteristics associated with the Ayutthaya artistic tradition, including a flame-like finial, elongated proportions, refined facial contours, and a calm meditative expression. The bronze surface has developed a naturally aged patina with areas of oxidation and devotional wear, contributing to the sculpture’s historic and ceremonial character.
Remnants of applied gold leaf remain visible across the torso, reflecting continued acts of reverence and offering over time. The unusually tall openwork pedestal gives the piece a striking silhouette while enhancing its display presence from multiple viewing angles.
