Description
This Sukhothai style Earth-Touching Buddha is depicted in the earth-touching (Bhumisparsha Mudra) posture, representing the moment of enlightenment when the Buddha called the earth to witness his victory over Mara. The composition reflects the refined proportions and spiritual composure associated with the classical Sukhothai sculptural tradition of Thailand.
Distinctive elements — including the elegant flame-like usnisha rising above the head and the serene facial expression — express the stylistic vocabulary of this lineage. The bronze surface displays a developed patina and mature tonal variation, giving the statue a calm and dignified presence.
With a height of 57 cm, it offers a substantial and balanced presence suitable for altar or contemplative display.
