Description
This Shan style seated Buddha sculpture reflects the refined artistic traditions associated with the Tai-Yai and Northern Southeast Asian Buddhist world. The figure is portrayed in the Bhumisparsha Mudra (Earth-Touching gesture), symbolizing the moment of enlightenment and the Buddha’s triumph over worldly illusion.
The sculpture displays several classic Shan stylistic characteristics, including the tall finial-like ushnisha, gently smiling expression, elongated almond-shaped eyes, and ornate decorative robe detailing. The layered garment motifs and elevated pedestal composition give the figure a graceful ceremonial appearance distinct from central Thai Sukhothai forms.
The bronze surface has developed a naturally aged dark patina with visible traces of devotional gold leaf application, reflecting prolonged ritual or altar use over time.
