Description
This Lanna-style Nak Prok Buddha depicts the Buddha seated in meditation beneath the protective hood of the sacred naga serpent, a revered iconography deeply associated with Buddhist symbolism across Northern Thailand and the greater Mekong region.
The Buddha is shown seated in the Earth-Touching (Bhumisparsha) posture, symbolizing the moment of enlightenment, while the naga rises protectively behind the figure with a pronounced serpent head canopy. The coiled naga base creates a powerful visual foundation and reinforces the sacred protective symbolism traditionally associated with the Nak Prok form.
Stylistically, the piece displays strong Northern Thai and Lanna-inspired characteristics, including the serene facial expression, elongated earlobes, compact seated composition, and simplified flowing robe treatment. The naga itself features expressive folk-style detailing with textured scales and a highly stylized serpent head, giving the sculpture a distinctive regional character.
The bronze surface carries an aged dark patina with traces of applied gold leaf at the chest, reflecting devotional use and traditional Buddhist worship practices. The rounded naga base and vertically rising serpent form create an elegant upward composition well suited for altar display or Southeast Asian Buddhist art collections.
At 36 cm tall, this statue offers a balanced medium-sized display presence while retaining strong visual impact through its protective naga imagery and classic Lanna-inspired sculptural styling.
Dimensions: 13 × 10 × 36 cm (L × W × H)
