Description
This crowned Buddha statue is rendered in a traditional Lao Lan Xang-influenced style, distinguished by its elaborate tapering crown, stylized ornamental detailing, and serene meditative posture. The figure reflects the artistic traditions historically associated with the Lan Xang Buddhist cultural sphere of Laos and the northeastern regions of Thailand.
The Buddha is depicted seated in meditation with both hands resting calmly in the lap in Dhyana Mudra, a gesture symbolizing inner balance, concentration, and spiritual contemplation. The figure sits upon an ornate multi-tiered pedestal decorated with scrolling motifs and stylized floral patterns commonly found in Lao devotional art.
The facial features are softly rounded with elongated eyes and a gentle expression, while the intricate crown and shoulder ornaments emphasize the celestial and royal qualities often associated with crowned Buddha imagery in the Lan Xang tradition. The elongated crown finial and decorative openwork further reinforce its regional stylistic character.
Remnants of devotional gold leaf remain visible across the chest, indicating continued acts of worship and offering over time. Natural patina, oxidation, and surface wear throughout the piece contribute to its devotional and aged appearance.
The underside reveals an enclosed base typical of traditional Southeast Asian devotional casting methods. Overall, the sculpture displays strong Lao Buddhist artistic influence rather than central Thai Ayutthaya or later Rattanakosin forms.
Suitable for altar placement, meditation spaces, or collectors of Southeast Asian Buddhist art traditions.
