Description
This seated crowned Buddha statue is rendered in a Khmer-influenced Southeast Asian style, featuring an elaborate tiered crown, decorative shoulder ornaments, and refined ornamental detailing throughout the figure.
The Buddha is depicted in the Bhumisparsha Mudra (Earth-Touching Gesture), symbolizing the moment of enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree when the Earth was called to witness the Buddha’s awakening. The left hand rests in the lap while the right hand extends downward toward the base.
Distinctive features of the piece include the tall segmented crown finial, jewelry-like chest adornments, stylized shoulder projections, and elongated facial proportions commonly associated with Khmer-inspired devotional sculpture traditions. The figure is seated upon a decorated pedestal base featuring repeating floral and ornamental motifs.
Remnants of devotional gold leaf remain visible across the chest and portions of the head and ears, reflecting continued acts of worship and offering over time. The surface displays natural oxidation, age wear, and patina consistent with older devotional metal statues.
The underside reveals an enclosed base filled with consecrated material, a traditional feature often seen in Southeast Asian Buddhist devotional castings. With its ornate crowned form and strong spiritual presence, this statue is well suited for altar placement, meditation spaces, or collectors of Southeast Asian Buddhist art.
