Luang Phor Kai
Luang Phor Kai was born on B.E.2419 (A.D. 1876). He is one of the most famous and respected monks in Southern Thailand. Whatever Luang Phor Kai says or predicts would often comes true. Hence he was given the title “Golden Mouth Monk.”
When he was 14 years old, an accident happened when he and his uncle were chopping firewood. A tree fell on him and squashed his left leg, and he did not seek medical attention as he thought it was just a minor injury; eventually, its condition worsened. Luang Phor Kai’s ankle started to swell, and the pain was unbearable; he cut off the swollen part with a knife. A devotee noticed that and was shocked and went to look for herbs. The follower helped him to stop bleeding and found a medical practitioner to cure him. Nevertheless, he had difficulty walking after that incident and had to travel around on a buffalo.
Luang Phor Kai was ordained at age 15 and promoted to become the temple abbot at age 26. He passed away at 94, and his body is preserved in Wat Chan Di.
